Mandy lives life fully. She is of an age where she might reasonably worry about osteoporosis or heart problems, but she has no such fears. Over the years in which she has BEAMed up with Tara, she has developed a resistance training habit, gained strength and lost inches. She pursues her favorite activities with 70-year-old abandon.
Kim is an extrovert, a party organizer and a creative, but she has never taken the stage before. Now, waiting in the wings, she is ready, she knows her part and can’t wait for the music to start. For 12 weeks, she has been working as a member of the BEAM Shine Time team to master Tara’s choreography. She’s discovered her inner rock star!
Desiree welcomes competition — in the world of real estate and at the tennis club. Her profession and sport may be “young women’s games,” but experience matters. In her 60s, she’s a skilled closer, and her court sense makes up for a lost step. She benefits, too, from Tara’s workouts, designed to maintain range of motion and prevent injuries.
Sara wasn’t the type to join in any kind of group fitness class. Self-conscious by nature, she feared that she wouldn’t measure up to others. But a friend convinced her to try one of Tara’s classes, and she’s a regular now. Her instructor doesn’t emphasize correctness. Instead she calls upon people to have fun, listen to their bodies and immerse themselves in the joy of movement.
Individual fitness goals vary from recovering from injury and overcoming limitations to improving flexibility and building stamina and strength. Everyone wants to enjoy a high quality of life, to feel energized, stronger, body confident and alive. BEAM works toward that end by promoting self-improvement through movement.
Empathy is more than sympathy. BEAM leads people to consider challenges and circumstances experienced by others, fostering greater levels of appreciation, a genuine spirit of inclusion and a new level of gratitude for the gifts that we enjoy.
Every BEAM class, performance and breakthrough builds self-belief. That confidence enables people to be themselves and move through life authentically instead of imitating others or yielding to limiting, often superficial expectations.
Fitness programs are easier with a skilled coach who offers encouragement and expert instruction. Ultimately, you are the only person who can hold you accountable for bettering yourself and growing stronger. But do allow yourself to be supported by someone who can hold space for you.
We all harbor inner children who just want to let go and have fun. They thrive on joy and freedom and respond to the energy of music, humor and play. When we get in touch with them, stress levels drop, we become lighter, and we separate from the inner critic. BEAM inspires joy.
